Fingerpainting
by Melanie Bettinelli on June 30, 2010
Last week when we went to Target Bella spied the tubes of finger paints. “What’s this, Mama?” Oh twist my arm! She didn’t even ask; but I pulled them off the shelf and she refused to put them in the cart. She carried them all the way to the checkout.
I am getting much, much more relaxed about messy crafts. The girls do them during Ben’s morning nap. They wash off. All is good.
Look how happy they are!
I love the one finger technique. But for such a dainty painting style, they still make quite the mess!

Ha ha, I love it! Uncle Tim wants to paint too. Getting messy is definitely a major bonus with finger painting. At least they have not tried to move to murals just yet and decorated the walls.

Uncle Tim, any time you want to come up and paint with us, we’d be honored and delighted!
We hung up the last two creations (Bella called them “wallpaper”.) One on the girl’s door and the other behind the door. I’m hoping that will curb the impulse to decorate the walls directly.
So far we’ve only had a couple of wall decorating incidents. Both times the girls were using the corners of colored blocks as crayons to draw. Turns out the paint on the blocks marks our cheaply painted walls very well.

I’m getting more relaxed messy art projects, too, and don’t approach them with nearly as much trepidation as I once did. And I never regret it when I let my girls unleash their creativity and get a little messy. It’s good for all of us.
Great photos!
